CAN HELP YOUR HEALTH
Chiropractic is the art and science of detection and manual
correction of the anatomical distortions of the human body (subluxation),
especially of the spine, but not exclusively thereof, for the
purpose of normalization of nerve expression. It recognizes
the influence of the environment upon body function, and
certain limitations in tissue resistance and capacities to
repair in some pathological circumstances. Chiropractic
embraces the principle that there is an innate intelligence
inherent within the human system that governs and controls its
function through nerve expression and that interference with
such expression predisposes to disease.
Subluxation, The Chiropractic Focus
The term “subluxation” was originally coined by Daniel David
Palmer, the discoverer of chiropractic. In its modern form it
refers essentially to any abnormal relationship in the
positional attitudes of anatomical parts: bones, ligaments,
muscles, even visceral structures. A spinal subluxation refers
to disorientation of slight degree causing interference with
nerve expression. The Association of Chiropractic Colleges, of
which Logan College is a member, defines subluxation this way:
“A subluxation is a complex of functional and/or structural
and/or pathological changes that compromise neural integrity
and may influence organ system function and general health.”
Research into the nature of the spinal subluxation has
indicated that in various spinal regions there are distinct
differences in the anatomical characteristics of subluxation,
including important differences in the structural design of
the various spinal sections. There are different responses and
reactions to stress in the various spinal regions, so that the
nature of the spinal subluxation may differ from one spinal
section to another.
How does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be
healthy. The chiropractic approach is to locate and help
remove interference to your natural state of being healthy.
Common interference to the nervous system - the 24 moving
bones of the spinal column. Improved spinal function often
equals improved nervous system function.
What do you call a health practitioner who practices
chiropractic?
Licensed chiropractors are entitled, by law and education, to
use the title of "Doctor of Chiropractic". Those who practice
chiropractic are also called "Chiropractic physician" or
simply, "Chiropractor".
What does a Doctor of Chiropractic do?
A Doctor of Chiropractic is a health care provider who
considers the human an integrated being but gives special
attention to spinal mechanics, musculoskeletal, neurological,
vascular and nutritional relationships. A Doctor of
Chiropractic must be able to carefully diagnose, evaluate and
deliver the proper care so that the body regains and maintains
health.
What type of education do Doctors of Chiropractic
receive?
Chiropractors receive expert knowledge of the body through the
study of basic sciences, clinical sciences, body mechanics,
and chiropractic techniques. The study of chiropractic
emphasizes anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology,
biomechanics, x-ray, and spinal adjusting techniques.
